About Elena
Elena, or ‘Bally' as she is known, comes from a sporting family; her dad and brother were professional footballers and her mum was an Olympic athlete. She was a very successful junior tennis player and reached the Junior Wimbledon semi-finals in 2001 as well as winning UK Junior national titles and representing Scotland at the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2000.
Elena has been a professional tennis player since 2002 and is currently enjoying her most successful year on the tennis tour. She reached the third round of the Australian Open, has already beaten three top ten-ranked players this season and last month she scored the best result of her career when she knocked the reigning French Open champion Francesca Schiavone out of the Istanbul Open. She is due to play the US Open later this month and will represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi later this year.
